Ali, Astro, & Mickey
with special guests
In 2014, founding UB40 members, including vocalist Ali Campbell, second vocalist Astro, and keyboardist Mickey Virtue, released a new album, Silhouette, followed by a double disc Unplugged + Greatest Hits release in November 2014 that featured classic UB40 songs re-imagined in an unplugged setting.
UB40 has been through its share of controversy in recent years as lead singer Ali Campbell departed the original group in 2008, along with keyboardist Mickey Virtue. He was later joined by Astro, who would leave in 2013, resulting in two groups touring under the name UB40 – one led by Ali and the other by his brother, Duncan Campbell, whom Ali refers to as the Dark Side. Despite the mess, both groups have gone on to release new music, but Ali is quick to point out that there is only one true UB40.
The band has had more than 50 singles on the UK Singles Chart, and has achieved considerable international success. They have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times, and in 1984 were nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group. One of the world's best-selling music artists, UB40 have sold over 70 million records.
Since their 2014 reformation, Ali, Astro, and Mickey have been moving full steam ahead. The Birmingham, UK-based reggae group will continue their momentum into 2017 with their U.S. tour with Raging Fyah. Their live setup has developed into a formidable touring outfit with an 11-piece ensemble, complete with a three-piece horn section you won't want to miss!
